vol 9 issue 5

We seek high-quality coverage of events and culture in and around the Ohio State University. We also encourage quality submissions of fiction, personal non-fiction, poetry, art, and photography.

We are open to submissions year-round. We discourage submissions over the summer, but may accept them depending on editor availability.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please inform us of this when you submit. Content published with AROUSE may be published elsewhere as permitted.

Unless otherwise directed, please send all submissions to arouseosueditors@gmail.com. Indicate the genre of your submission in the subject line of your email — for example, if submitting articles, write [Article]. Submissions that violate this format will be rejected.

Selected contributors will receive $25 within two weeks of being accepted, and will be published in the annual print edition of AROUSE Magazine. Questions about our policies can be directed to our email.

As OSU’s alternative voice, we seek written journalism with a cultural and political bent. The ideal AROUSE article features both timely reportage and thoughtful analysis of cultural and civic life in and around campus.

Don’t be intimidated — we want your writing. Send us your article, and we’ll work with you.

As a student magazine, we imagine ourselves as a platform for the personal growth and development of our contributors. We aim to provide prompt feedback on articles within a week or less, and encourage interested writers to reach out to us to collaborate on pitches.

Contributors interested in covering music events can request a Press Pass by clicking the button below.

We invite submissions of quality literary fiction of all kinds and tastes up to 8,000 words in length. We gladly consider fiction with genre and experimental elements. Please only send us one story per submission.

We also accept flash fiction of up to 1,000 words in length. Up to three flash fiction stories may be submitted at a time.

Submissions must be double-spaced Times New Roman. Any submissions that violate these guidelines will be rejected.

We want writing that makes us reconsider our relationship to the culture and world around us. We appreciate submissions of personal essays and other unconventional forms of non-fiction writing of up to 8,000 words in length.

We’re still putting our poetry desk together — check back soon!

If you’re interested in submitting your art or photography to AROUSE Magazine, please reach out to us directly at arouseosueditors@gmail.com.
