Welcome To The Laundromat: Body Farm @ Dirty Dungarees

You might not expect to find yourself rocking out at the laundromat on a Sunday night, but at Dirty Dungarees Body Farm brought the sound, energy, and rage to get the whole place head banging.

Dirty Dungarees combines two places you might never think to join: a laundromat and a punk/hardcore venue. It hosts a small bar with booths leading up to the music area. It has no clear stage, just a big pit covered with posters, flyers, and stickers where people can stand on the same level as the performers. As a venue, it clocks in firmly on the smaller side, with the other half of the building’s space given over to washers and dryers. I find it very intimate, and perfect for shows like these. Located just a short walk away from campus, Dirty Dungarees is a great place to expose yourself to the hardcore scene.

The first band to play was Ungrounded, and they had the crowd pumped. The band, founded a few months ago by a couple of OSU alums, definitely had the power, speed, and energy to bring an electric feel to the night. My only qualms with Ungrounded came from their mixing, as their instrumentals almost drowned out their lead vocals. They sounded amazing, but I do really value vocals. Still, they will be one I go out of my way to see again.

The second group to play, Hussie out of the northeast Ohio area, also did not disappoint. I found them to be a little bit more balanced as I could hear everyone’s instruments and vocals equally, leaving me with zero complaints about them. The same goes for the third group, Death Gasp from Pittsburgh. I definitely had a lot of fun with them, along with the rest of the crowd there that night.

Body Farm headlined the night of chaos. I’d seen them earlier this summer, and in my opinion they just keep getting better and better. With it being late on a Sunday, the crowd had started to thin, but Body Farm made it worth burning the midnight oil the night before my 8 am class. The vocalist came in with a high-pitched scream that communicated so much force and rage.

Any band led by a woman really excites me. I love the higher pitch of the vocals and it always inspires me to see, especially in a male-dominated scene like punk/hardcore. I loved every part of their set. The crowd started off a little tame, but that didn’t last. The band picked up the audience, and by their third song, the pit was in full motion.

Altogether, Dirty Dungarees is the perfect place to spend your week or weekend evenings if you’re looking for something exciting and an amazing group of people. The stellar groups they get there are not to miss – especially Body Farm, a must-see for any hardcore fan or, really, any music lover.
