Track Review: Cellar Dwellar’s “Alecto”

If you’re looking for drawn-out, high-energy, hair-raising alternative metal, look no further than Cellar Dwellar’s new single (their first one in two years): “Alecto”. This poetic and conceptual song brings an eerie element to rock, and has been released—in perfect time for Halloween—on Oct. 28. The jumps from swampy and sinister vocals to messy and manic guitar build tension and suspense, and one can only imagine how that sound can, and will, be truly appreciated in a live setting. Cellar Dwellar’s background in basement recordings and house shows has influenced the craftsmanship of a song that will leave audiences breathless from awe and/or moshing. It is clear that Cellar Dwellar has evolved into a more mature band, fitting in with other bands like Animals as Leaders and Mindless Self Indulgence. What this song lacks in a typical melody and catchy lyrics it makes up for with raw musicianship and feeling. The lyrics ask, “did you get what you wanted,” and the only answer after finishing this song is yes.
